AMETEK VersaSTAT Series – Modular Potentiostat / Galvanostat Systems
The VersaSTAT Series by Princeton Applied Research (AMETEK) is one of the most widely used and versatile families of single-channel potentiostat/galvanostat systems in electrochemical research. The series includes the VersaSTAT3A, VersaSTAT4A, VersaSTAT3, VersaSTAT4, and VersaSTAT3F, offering a flexible, option-based platform that can be configured to meet a broad range of experimental requirements.
VersaSTAT instruments combine high-current capability, excellent low-current resolution, and optional impedance spectroscopy (EIS) within a single, upgradeable system. Selected models feature floating operation, enabling safe and accurate testing of grounded cells and structures, such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, storage tanks, pipelines, and autoclaves.
All VersaSTAT systems operate within the VersaStudio software environment, providing access to a comprehensive library of electrochemical techniques used in energy research, physical electrochemistry, corrosion, and materials science. Hardware and software upgrades—including the Low Current Interface and Frequency Response Analyzer (FRA)—can be added at any time, extending system capability without returning the instrument to service.

🔹 VersaSTAT3A – Potentiostat Galvanostat
VersaSTAT3A sets the standard for value, flexibility, and floating operation. Its floating measurement capability enables experiments on ground-connected cells and structures, making it ideal for fuel cells, corrosion studies, and autoclave-based testing. When paired with another floating unit, it also supports bi-potentiostat RRDE experiments.
Key Points:
• Floating operation
• Optional 20 A booster
• Ideal when high current is not always required
🔹 VersaSTAT4A – Potentiostat Galvanostat
The VersaSTAT4A is the high-speed flagship of the VersaSTAT family, featuring 500 kS/s data acquisition. Like the 3A, it offers floating capability for grounded systems and is well suited for advanced electrochemical dynamics and RRDE experiments.
Key Points:
• Floating operation
• High-speed measurements (500 kS/s)
• Optional 20 A booster
🔹 VersaSTAT3 – Potentiostat Galvanostat
VersaSTAT3 delivers similar electrical performance to the VersaSTAT3A but without floating capability. It is only available with a 20 A power booster and is recommended when high current is always required and floating operation is not needed.
Key Points:
• Non-floating operation
• 20 A booster included as standard
🔹 VersaSTAT4 – Potentiostat Galvanostat
The VersaSTAT4 mirrors the VersaSTAT4A’s specifications but does not support floating operation and is only supplied with a 20 A booster. It is suited for high-current applications where floating measurements are not required.
Key Points:
• Non-floating operation
• 20 A booster included as standard
🔹 VersaSTAT3F – Potentiostat Galvanostat
The VersaSTAT3F offers specifications similar to the VersaSTAT4A and is always supplied with a 20 A booster or integrated as part of VersaSCAN scanning electrochemical systems. When a booster is not required, the VersaSTAT4A is the preferred alternative.
Key Points:
• 20 A booster required
• Optimized for VersaSCAN integration
